Donald Trump has stated he would impose 25 per cent tariffs on imports of products from Japan and South Korea, in an announcement that despatched US shares sliding.

The president on Monday stated the brand new levies on each nations would come into impact on August 1 — doubtlessly providing the nations additional time to strike a cope with the US.

The announcement of the tariff charges comes forward of a July 9 deadline when Trump’s so-called “reciprocal” levies are set to snap again into impact following a 90-day partial suspension.
