India-Panama Talks: Cooperation on UN Matters and UNSC Presidency

India on Thursday held delegation-level talks with Panama on United Nations-related issues and prolonged its assist to Panama for a profitable presidency of the UN Safety Council in August 2025.

Vice Minister of International Affairs of Panama, Carlos Arturo Hoyos, met Secretary (West) of the Ministry of Exterior Affairs, Tanmaya Lal, in New Delhi for the bilateral talks.

Panama is at the moment serving as a non-permanent member of the UN Safety Council for the 2025-2026 time period. It was elected alongside Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, and Somalia within the final election to fill non-permanent seats.

The Safety Council consists of 15 members, 5 everlasting members, specifically China, France, Russia, the UK, and the USA, together with ten non-permanent members elected for two-year phrases by the UN Basic Meeting, as per the UNSC.

The present non-permanent members embody Algeria (2025), Denmark (2026), Greece (2026), Guyana (2025), Pakistan (2026), Panama (2026), the Republic of Korea (2025), Sierra Leone (2025), Slovenia (2025), and Somalia (2026).
