There’s a narrative that Sri Lanka’s debt reimbursement will start in 2028.

Sri Lanka’s Treasury in the meanwhile makes use of new loans from multilaterals and reserves from the central financial institution to repay debt.

If the central financial institution doesn’t run ample deflationary coverage (mopping up liqudity), it will not be ready totally to produce {dollars} to the Treasury, and any makes an attempt to purchase further {dollars} above any deflationary coverage will result in depreciation, analysts have warned.

Given the expertise previously particularly because the warfare ended, analysts have stated the Treasury can purchase its personal {dollars} in financial coverage impartial transactions.

The opposite technique needs to be to get taxes from exporters in US {dollars}, which will even cease the Treasury being hostage to any unwillingness to by central financial institution to run deflationary coverage. (Colombo/Nov07/2025)
