WASHINGTON, D.C. –  The Board of Administrators of the Nationwide Affiliation of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) permitted a decision at present recognizing the significance of Superior Transmission Applied sciences (ATTs) — similar to Grid-Enhancing Applied sciences (GETs) and Excessive-Efficiency Conductors (HPCs) — to making sure inexpensive, dependable electrical energy. Because the decision states, these are “inexpensive, progressive technological options to cut back prices by unlocking essential transmission capability within the close to time period.” The American Council on Renewable Power (ACORE) strongly agrees with NARUC’s expressed help for federal funds to assist utilities, regional grid operators, and states within the deployment of those applied sciences, together with by way of the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program underneath the U.S. Division of Power’s Grid Deployment Workplace. Up to now, 29 states have benefitted from federal grants that embrace GETs and HPCs.

Following is a press release from Elise Caplan, ACORE’s Vice President, Regulatory Affairs:

“There are various polarizing points going through our nation at present – however deploying sensible transmission applied sciences to cost-effectively strengthen the nation’s grid isn’t amongst them. NARUC’s bipartisan help of ATTs is a testomony to the essential want for policymakers and grid operators to intently take into account the advantages GETs and HPCs can ship throughout the nation. ATTs have a vital function to play in serving to America meet rising energy demand from new and rising industries whereas guaranteeing all shoppers can entry dependable, inexpensive electrical energy. Deploying these applied sciences on the present system will add transmission capability and make sure the grid operates extra effectively. Concurrently, the U.S. should proceed to plan, allow, and construct the regional and interregional transmission traces wanted to allow low-cost energy and strengthen the system in opposition to excessive climate and different threats for many years to come back.

“We commend NARUC for passing a decision at present recognizing the well-demonstrated advantages of those applied sciences and calling for enough federal funding to speed up their adoption. We hope to see the federal authorities construct on NARUC’s management to make sure these near-term grid options obtain the help essential to proceed their momentum.”
