In 1880, the Chinese language have been the most important group of immigrants within the western U.S. However Sinophobic sentiments crystallized into racist insurance policies and ultimately the Chinese language Exclusion Act of 1882. The rationale was that banning Chinese language laborers would enhance job alternatives for U.S.-born employees. As we speak, an economist explains how the Chinese language exclusion legal guidelines affected the economies of western states and what it says about our present debate over immigration and jobs.
