HSBC Buys Biomass-Based Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Deal with Cathay Pacific, EcoCeres – ESG Today

HSBC Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific and biofuels platform EcoCeres introduced a brand new initiative aimed toward serving to to decarbonize air journey by supporting using sustainable aviation gasoline (SAF) in Hong Kong.

Below the brand new initiative, HSBC will buy 3,400 tonnes of SAF produced by EcoCeres, to be used by Cathay Pacific on flights departing from the Hong Kong Worldwide Airport. The transaction marks HSBC’s largest SAF buy up to now, and the initiative will assist Cathay Pacific’s objective to scale using SAF to 10% of its gasoline consumption by 2030.

Ronald Lam, Chief Govt Officer of the Cathay Group, stated:

“We’re grateful to HSBC for this landmark partnership, showcasing shared sustainability management, and to EcoCeres for his or her market main SAF manufacturing. We’re very inspired by the participation by an increasing number of corporates in SAF associated initiatives.”

HSBC Hong Kong CEO Luanne Lim described the brand new initiative as “a pilot programme, which might assist pave the best way for broader implementation,” including that the settlement “displays our assist for brand spanking new financial system options and demonstrates how companies can collaborate to assist modern decarbonisation applied sciences.”

EcoCeres produces SAF from 100% waste-based biomass feedstock, which might scale back carbon emissions by as much as 90%.
