Microsoft Inks 7 Million Ton Nature-Based Carbon Removal Megadeal – ESG Today

Microsoft and nature-based carbon elimination startup Chestnut Carbon introduced at present a brand new 25-year offtake settlement, with Chestnut offering Microsoft with greater than 7 million tons of nature-based carbon elimination credit, generated from its forest initiatives within the Southern U.S.

The deal marks the largest-ever voluntary company funding in conservation forestry within the U.S., in line with Chestnut Carbon, restoring roughly 60,000 acres of land, and planting greater than 35 million native, biodiverse hardwood and softwood timber.

Launched in 2022 by power sector-focused different asset supervisor Kimmeridge, Chestnut helps cut back carbon emissions by planting and creating long-term forest initiatives that create biodiverse ecosystems and group advantages. Chestnut’s initiatives purchase marginal crop and pasture lands, and companions with native foresters, nurseries, and group members to develop an excellent forest ecosystem primarily based on native tree species, soil, drainage, and group land use.
