U.S. Rejects UN Sustainable Development Goals – ESG Today

The U.S. underneath the Trump administration acknowledged that it “rejects and denounces” the United Nations Sustainable Growth Objectives (UN SDGs), the important thing world objectives adopted by nations unanimously in 2015 as a part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Growth, geared toward tackling world environmental and social challenges.

The UN SDGs check with the 17 classes of objectives for Sustainable Growth, with the purpose to guard the planet and enhance the standard of life globally.  SDG targets embrace ending poverty and starvation, enhancing training, and defending the atmosphere.

The announcement was made by Counselor for Financial and Social Affairs (ECOSOC) on the U.S. Mission to the UN Edward Heartney on the Normal Meeting, previous to a vote on “creating an Worldwide Day of Peaceable Coexistence,” which included a reaffirmation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Growth.

In his remarks to the UN Normal Meeting, Heartney mentioned that “Agenda 2030 and the SDGs advance a program of sentimental world governance that’s inconsistent with U.S. sovereignty and hostile to the rights and pursuits of Individuals,” including that the brand new U.S. administration has “set a transparent and overdue course correction on “gender” and local weather ideology,” which he mentioned “pervade the SDGs.”

The announcement types a part of a broader retreat by the Trump administration from worldwide local weather and sustainability initiatives, together with eradicating the U.S. from key local weather financing endeavours, and exiting the Paris Settlement in one in all President Trump’s first government orders after his inauguration in January.

Heartney mentioned:
