Saudi’s NEOM, DataVolt to Build $5 Billion Net Zero AI Data Center Campus – ESG Today

Saudi Arabia’s growth megaproject NEOM and Riyadh-based sustainable knowledge heart developer DataVolt introduced that they’ve signed a brand new settlement, aimed toward establishing a “net-zero AI manufacturing unit campus in NEOM’s Oxagon area.

The settlement consists of plans for $5 billion of funding in its first part, establishing a 1.5 GW manufacturing unit integrating a variety of computing densities and power environment friendly architectures, anticipated to be operational by 2028.

The brand new settlement comes because the speedy development of AI threatens to problem international carbon emissions discount efforts, with the IEA estimating that AI-driven knowledge heart energy utilization may double by 2026 and develop quickly over the following a number of years. A number of tech giants, together with Microsoft, Google and Amazon, have highlighted elevated power wants to satisfy the AI-driven development in knowledge facilities as a key problem to their decarbonization objectives.

Underneath the settlement, DataVolt will lease land for the event of the power from Oxagon, who can even present infrastructure help. In accordance with NEOM, Oxagon’s location on the Purple Coastline will present entry to sub-sea cables offering fiber connectivity, along with cost-competitive renewable power and inexperienced hydrogen, making it “the perfect location” for the event of “a large-scale inexperienced AI manufacturing unit.”

Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, stated:
