‘A lot of uncertainty’: MAGA senator accuses Trump officials of being ‘inconsistent’ on key issue

Amongst members of Congress, responses to President Donald Trump’s steep new tariffs vary from scathing criticism from many Democrats to reward from MAGA Republicans to lukewarm criticism from different Republicans.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) is a frequent defender of Trump, however he has robust reservations about Trump’s tariffs. And he’s making an attempt to voice his opposition with out sounding like he’s attacking the president.

Kennedy voiced his considerations throughout a Monday, April 14 look on CNN, accusing some Trump Administration officers of being “inconsistent” in terms of speaking about tariffs.

The Louisiana senator advised CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I see plenty of uncertainty, and I feel to some extent, it is intentional. For those who hearken to the president’s aides weekend earlier than final after which hearken to him this weekend, you do not have to be Einstein’s cousin to determine they have been saying issues that have been inconsistent. The senator additionally lamented that the Trump Administration is not being “clear” concerning the causes for imposing new tariffs.

“I feel I do know what’s within the president’s coronary heart,” Kennedy advised Tapper, “however I do not know what’s in his head…. The (Trump) Administration has not given one clear rationale for its tariffs. I feel that is intentional. I do not know, however my guess is it is intentional and that it’s a part of the president’s negotiating technique.”

Kennedy added, “However Jake, I don’t wish to feign understanding right here. I don’t know. However that is my finest guess, figuring out how the president operates.”
