Kochi’s new microbiology lab to boost food safety and export standards

Nitin Kumar Yadav, Director (EIC) and Further Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Trade inaugurating the brand new microbiology laboratory in Kochi

A state-of-the-art microbiology laboratory was inaugurated on the Export Inspection Company (EIA), Kochi, below the executive and technical management of the Export Inspection Council (EIC). The ability is predicted to play a key position in strengthening meals security requirements and enhancing the standard of exports.

Inaugurating the laboratory, Nitin Kumar Yadav, Director (EIC) and Further Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Trade, stated export inspection businesses and the EIC act as India’s regulatory spine for export certification. “In a dynamic international regulatory surroundings, we should constantly improve our infrastructure, particularly laboratory capabilities, to make sure that Indian merchandise meet the best worldwide requirements,” he stated.

Lab outfitted for superior meals and feed pathogen testing

The brand new facility is supplied to conduct superior microbiological evaluation of meals and feed, notably for pathogens related to export, import, and home markets.

It additionally homes a hands-on coaching centre designed to construct technical experience within the subject and develop a pool of expert professionals, particularly from Kerala and Karnataka.

New labs arising at Mangaluru, Ahmedabad, and Faridabad

Yadav additionally highlighted {that a} new lab is within the superior stage of operationalisation at Mangaluru on this area, aside from labs at Ahmedabad and the one within the pipeline at Faridabad.

J.S. Reddy, Further Director, EIC, stated that the laboratory has already earned nationwide recognition. It has been designated because the Nationwide Referral Laboratory for Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) testing by the Ministry of Setting, Forest and Local weather Change, and can also be authorised to offer Proficiency Testing on this specialised space.
