At Rs 27 lakh crore, gross direct tax collections up nearly 16% in FY25—Catch key highlights from official data

The central authorities stated on Friday that its gross direct tax collections stood at a provisional Rs 27,02,974 crore throughout the monetary yr 2024-25, which ended on March 31, 2025. That marked a rise of 15.6 per cent over its collections—direct taxes embody earnings tax and company tax—over its kitty the earlier yr. 

Its web collections rose 13.6 per cent to a provisional Rs 22,26,231 crore, in keeping with an official notification. 

Direct tax refunds—or the return of extra cash paid by earnings tax assesses in comparison with their precise dues—jumped 26 per cent to Rs 4,76,743 crore. In FY24, the precise refunds have been recorded at Rs 3,78,255 crore.

Out of the web collections of Rs 22,26,231 crore, Rs 9,86,719 crore was collected as company tax, Rs 11,82,875 crore as non-corporate tax (included taxes paid by entities comparable to people and Hindu Undivided Households), and Rs 53,296 crore as securities transaction tax (STT), in keeping with the notification.
