ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports rose 6.32 % to 13,579.38 million {dollars} in 2025 from a 12 months in the past, helped by boat constructing, coconut and different export crops, information from the export promotion workplace confirmed.

Merchandise exports for December 2025 rose 5.88 %, in comparison with the identical interval in 2024, to 1,163.66 million {dollars}.

“Coconut-based merchandise recorded a big 27.24% y-o-y enhance in December 2025,” the Export Improvement Board mentioned.

Coconut-based product exports introduced in 1.233.01 million {dollars} in 2025, a rise of 42.66 %.

Export earnings from attire and textiles elevated by a 4.93 % y-o-y to five,300.00 million {dollars}, amidst US President Donald Trump’s new tariffs.

Earnings from tea fell 19.59 % to 105.82 million {dollars} in December 2025 in comparison with December 2024. However total, tea exports in 2025 grew 4.97 % to 1,507.19.

Earnings from rubber-based merchandise declined 5.20 % to 76.54 million in December 2025 in comparison with December 2024.

America continued to be Sri Lanka’s largest single export vacation spot, with exports rising 3.06 % to 2,999.15 million {dollars} in 2025 in comparison with 2024.

India continued as Sri Lanka’s second-largest export vacation spot, surpassing the UK.

Nonetheless, though total exports to India had elevated by 17.21 % in 2025, reaching 1,035.72 million {dollars}, exports in December 2025 declined by 7.35 % to 80.39 million in comparison with the identical month in 2024.

Exports to the UK grew by 2.8 %, totaling 929.03 million {dollars} in 2025. (Colombo/Jan26/2026)
