Gold hallmarking made mandatory for 9 carat jewellery

Posting on X (earlier Twitter), the All India Gem and Jewelry Home Council stated, “Jewellers and hallmarking centres are required to adjust to this addition of 9 carat gold to the necessary hallmarking listing underneath the BIS laws.”

“9 carat Gold (375 ppt) is now formally underneath necessary hallmarking as per BIS Modification No. 2 All jewellers and hallmarking centres should comply,” the council acknowledged.

What’s gold hallmarking?

The Bureau of Indian Requirements started the fourth part of necessary hallmarking underneath the Hallmarking of Gold Jewelry and Gold Artefacts Modification Order, 2024, from November 5, 2024.
