Chennai Metro Phase II expansion begins; Corridor 5 work kicks off

Chennai Metro Rail Restricted has commenced the enlargement of Chennai metropolis’s metro rail community as a part of Section II. That is after the profitable completion of Section I and Section I Extension Corridors in levels since June 2015 and the rising ridership in Corridors 1 and a pair of.

CMRL has now ventured into in depth infrastructure growth within the metropolis comprising three extra corridors of metro rail for a complete size of 118.9 km being funded by a number of multi-national funding businesses, together with the  Asian Improvement Financial institution, Japan Worldwide Cooperation Company, New Improvement Financial institution and the Asian Infrastructure Funding Financial institution,

Hall 5 work begins at Madhavaram Milk Colony and connects by Koyambedu, Porur, Alandur, and different residential/industrial developments of the town to Shollinganallur. It has a complete size of 47 km, 5 underground stations, and 39 elevated stations.

4 TBMs, every named after distinct Tamil landscapes (Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, and Neithal), will probably be deployed for Hall 5.

TBM Kurinji, the primary to be launched on Wednesday, will bore a 246-meter tunnel from Kolathur Ramp in the direction of Kolathur Station (upline) and is predicted to succeed in in June 2025. It should then be retrieved and relaunched from the south shaft to the tunnel in the direction of Srinivasa Nagar (1.06 kms).

The second TBM, Mullai, is predicted to reach by the top of March 2025 and can start tunnelling adjoining to Villivakkam Railway Station in the direction of Villivakkam Bus Terminus (603 meters). The remaining two TBMs will probably be launched based mostly on web site readiness.

The 7.8 km underground tunnel part with twin tunnels of three.9 km every of Hall 5, together with 5 underground stations from Kolathur Ramp to Nathamuni Ramp, is being executed by Tata Tasks Restricted and has to mobilize a complete of 4 TBMs for the works, the discharge stated.
